Public Information Requests (Texas Public Information Act)

Public Information & Transparency

The City of Ingram is committed to transparency and open government. In accordance with the Texas Public Information Act (Texas Government Code Chapter 552), members of the public may request access to government records maintained by the City.

Our goal is to respond to requests as promptly and efficiently as possible while ensuring compliance with applicable state law and protecting confidential information as required by law.


How to Submit a Public Information Request

Requests for public information should be submitted in writing and should clearly describe the records being requested.

Tips for Submitting a Request

To help us process your request efficiently, please include:

  • Your name and contact information
  • A clear description of the records requested
  • Relevant dates, addresses, case numbers, or departments if known
  • Your preferred method of receiving records

Please note:

  • The City is required to provide existing records but is not required to create new documents, answer questions, or perform legal research.
  • Requests for broad categories of records may require clarification before processing can begin.

Response Time

Under Texas law, the City will respond to requests promptly. Some requests may require additional time depending on:

  • The volume of records requested
  • The age or location of records
  • Whether confidential or protected information must be reviewed or redacted
  • Staffing availability and operational demands

If clarification, cost estimates, or a ruling from the Texas Attorney General is required, the City will notify the requestor as provided by law.


Costs & Charges

Certain requests may involve allowable charges under Texas law, including:

  • Copies
  • Labor
  • Programming or data retrieval
  • Postage or shipping

If estimated charges exceed the statutory threshold, the City will provide a written cost estimate before processing continues.


Confidential & Protected Information

Some information may be withheld or redacted as permitted or required by law, including but not limited to:

  • Criminal investigation information
  • Juvenile records
  • Driver’s license or motor vehicle information
  • Medical or personal privacy information
  • Information protected by state or federal law

When required, the City may request a ruling from the Texas Attorney General regarding the release of certain information.
